Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
